What should be considered when choose LED fixtures in swimming pool lighting?

In the hot summer, many men, women, and children will choose to swim in the pool to avoid the summer heat. Accidents can easily occur in swimming pools without well-lit fixtures. Earlier, a video about a battery leak in a community, an electric shock to a little girl, and a tragic accident happened in the circle of friends. Accidents are everywhere. Xiao Bian, regardless of the true or false of this incident, but the choice and installation of swimming pool lighting cannot be ignored.

What should be considered when choose LED fixtures in swimming pool lighting?

There are many small spaces or special areas in lighting design, they can better reflect the quality of a project. These spaces are not only a consideration of schemes and effects, but also have higher requirements on nodes and technology. I hope to focus on these spaces in the future.

With the continuous development of LED technology, the lighting of swimming pools has become more attractive and interesting. Due to the rich color temperature of LED light sources, the flexible control of RGB and even RGBW, coupled with its energy-saving and long maintenance cycle, LED pool lights are now popular.

So for today's swimming pool lighting, what should we consider when choosing lighting fixtures in lighting design?

Let's explore some points as follows:

1, Surface material of the lamp

The surface material of the lamp must be 1.4571 stainless steel. For even higher salinity or warm salt water, even 1.4539 alloy steel is required, and the surface is polished to prevent corrosion. In fact, unlike everyone ’s common sense, stainless steel will also be rusted and discolored, especially if the surface is not treated properly. Fixtures and other parts such as wire connectors also require the use of suitable stainless steel.

2, the structure of the lamp

For the structure of the luminaire, it must be able to waterproof the wire connection in the luminaire and still be able to intercept water into the luminaire when the wire is broken. The gasket between the glass and the lamp body must be an age-resistant silicone material. LED electronic screens also need to be protected with conformal coatings.

3, Embedded parts housing

The housing of the embedded parts of the lamp should have flexible pipelines connected to the outside of the swimming pool, and the connection of the wires and pipelines is waterproof. If there is no waterproof connection between the electric wire and the pipeline, siphoning may result even if the pipeline is over a water pipe.

4. Luminous flux selection

The choice of the luminous flux of the swimming pool lamps depends on the brightness of the ambient light and the size of the swimming pool. Cold white light with a higher color temperature has a slower absorption rate in water than warm white light. This is because blue light is absorbed by 5%, the green light is 3%, and the red light is 16% after one meter of light in the water. The transmittance of light at other distances is shown in the table below:

So using cool white LED lights has two advantages: higher LED light efficiency and lower absorption in water.

For rectangular swimming pools of different widths, the approximate luminous flux requirements for LED lamps are as follows:

The wire used must be a special underwater wire that can match the copper core diameter specified by the lamp manufacturer. If the luminaire does not have wires (for more flexible wire length), make sure to follow the manufacturer's recommendations to seal the connection. The same requirements apply to junction boxes and waterproof sealed junction systems.

The ideal situation is that the connection of the wire and the lamp is completed in the lamp factory, which requires the length of the wire to be determined when the lamp is placed. For the values listed above, if you want the lighting effect in the water to be more obvious, it is recommended to keep the illumination of the pool environment below 100lx. For rectangular swimming pools, if you want more uniform illumination, it is recommended to install the lamps on both sides of the long side, with a beam angle of 90 degrees, with the lamps spaced about half the width of the pool.

The maintenance of swimming pools often requires lowering the water level or emptying the water in the pools, but what end-users need to pay attention to is that many high-power LED lamps to need water to help cool down.

All in all, designing a satisfactory swimming pool light has high requirements on the luminaire, and it requires good luminaire quality, the luminous flux, size, color, color temperature, beam angle, etc. of the luminaire all need to be matched.
