It is understood that Glamox AS, located in Oslo, Norway, is a global leader in providing lighting for offshore energy and offshore wind power sectors. It is a major supplier of high-quality, energy-efficient lighting for professional buildings in Europe and the world's marine market. Lighting Solutions, offering a range of luminaires that can operate in the harshest environments, Glamox as a company is also committed to achieving net zero operations by 2030.

H?kon Helmersen, senior vice president of Glamox's marine and wind energy division, said: "The shipping industry accounts for about 3% of global carbon dioxide emissions, which is equivalent to about 1 billion tons of carbon dioxide per year. The penetration rate of LED lights in the shipping industry is very low, about 30%. , while the penetration rate of commercial buildings is about 50%. Switching to LED lighting is a good option for ship operators who want to reduce costs and emissions.”

"We worked with Stena Line to conduct joint inspections of their vessels and used our Glamox digital energy calculator to illustrate the energy, carbon and cost savings we could enable them to achieve," added Helmersen.

So far, around 3,500 energy-efficient LED luminaires are being retrofitted on the first 15 ro-ro ships and ro-passenger ferries, which operate mainly on Stena Line's UK, Sweden, Denmark and Baltic routes. The retrofit of LED luminaires for the company's entire fleet will be completed in the next few years.

According to the International Ship Network, the use of LED lights to replace the main fluorescent lights will enable Stena Line to reduce lighting electricity consumption by 60%. The switch to LED technology is in line with Stena Line's sustainability strategy, which seeks to reduce CO2 emissions from existing ships by 30%.
